Cancer Genetics

Cancer Genetics Clinic

The Cancer Genetics Clinic provides comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, testing, education, and counseling to candidates who are at risk or potentially at risk of having a hereditary predisposition to cancer.

Our genetic counselors will assist individuals and families in understanding the diagnosis, treatment and management of a genetic disorder. They will educate candidates on their risk for cancer by reviewing family and personal history as well as discussing the emotional, psychological, and medical implications of proceeding with a test.

Individuals who make the best candidates for genetic counseling include those with cancer onset at an early age, cancers occurring multiple generations of family, and clustering of the same type of cancer in close relatives.

A hereditary gene mutation most often occurs in breast, uterine, prostate, ovarian, and colon cancers. Though, individuals or families with a history of cancers, including rare cancers, may also benefit from genetic counseling.
