What is chemotherapy?

Chemotherapy refers to the medicines and drugs used to treat cancer. These drugs can intravenously or orally through a pill. 

There are more than 100 different types of chemotherapy drugs used to treat cancer. intravenously or orally through a pill.

The goals of chemotherapy drugs are to cure, control, and ease symptoms caused by cancer.

Chemotherapy and Infusion Center

The Chemotherapy and Infusion Center offers 45 infusion spaces for receiving treatment. The center offers many amenities for your comfort:

Complimentary WiFi
Warm blankets
Tablets available to borrow
Kitchenette with microwave
Complimentary beverages and light refreshments

In addition, volunteers regularly come by with a snack cart, offering drinks and refreshments. If you are receiving treatment during the lunch hours, a complimentary lunch will be provided to the patient.

Children under the ages of 12 are not allowed in the Chemotherapy and Infusion Center. There is a Family Lounge on the first floor of the Stephenson Cancer Center with a Wii and other games and entertainment.

Supportive Care

The mission of the Supportive Care Program at the Stephenson Cancer Center is to restore and maintain the quality of life for people living with cancer and their families through the interdisciplinary delivery of expert symptom management, palliative care, health promotion and prevention interventions for the person diagnosed with cancer.
