Robert Mannel, MD

Director, Stephenson Cancer Center; Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology

Robert Mannel, MD, director of the Stephenson Cancer Center since 2007 and professor in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, has been a member of the University of Oklahoma faculty since 1989. He was instrumental in the development and growth of the section of Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Oklahoma, which is widely considered one of the top gynecologic cancer programs in the country. In addition, he served as Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology from 1997 to 2013.

Dr. Mannel has published over 100 scientific articles dealing with the management of gynecologic malignancies and is currently a co-editor of Clinical Gynecologic Oncology, one of the major textbooks in its field. Dr. Mannel has served in multiple national leadership positions in his field including serving as a committee member of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology Gynecologic Oncology Board and was Vice President for the Society of Gynecologic Oncology in 2012-2013. He is a national leader in National Cancer Institute Clinical Trials Network serving as Chairman of the Protocol Development Committee for Gynecologic Cancers. He is the Principle Investigator for the Gynecologic Oncology Group at the University of Oklahoma which leads the nation in enrolling patients on National Cancer Institute sponsored gynecologic oncology trials. In his new position as Director of the Stephenson Cancer Center he is overseeing the growth and development of the largest cancer center in the State of Oklahoma in terms of patient care, research, and education.

A graduate of the University of Texas College of Medicine at Galveston, Dr. Mannel completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Scott and White Hospital in Temple Texas. After residency, he pursued a gynecologic oncology fellowship at the University of California, Irvine and joined the faculty at the University of Oklahoma in 1989.

Dr. Mannel is board-certified in both obstetrics & gynecology and gynecology oncology. He serves as an examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology, where he participates in the oral examination of physicians seeking certification as specialists in gynecology oncology.
