The OU Medicine Campus in Oklahoma City will soon welcome more than a thousand runners and volunteers from across the state participating in the Stephenson Cancer Center’s inaugural Outpace Cancer Race, a 10K/5K race and 1-mile walk, happening on Saturday, Sept. 15 beginning at 8 a.m.

Stephenson Cancer Center researchers have been awarded three highly competitive Department of Defense research grants to investigate how ovarian cancer cells develop, why they often develop resistance to standard cancer drugs, and new therapeutic strategies to fight this deadly disease. The investigators, Dr. Resham Bhattacharya and Dr. Danny Dhanasekaran, are members of the cancer center’s Gynecologic Cancers Research Program. Dhanasekaran also serves as Associate Director for Basic Research at the Stephenson Cancer Center.

Nearly 40 high school students from across Oklahoma participated in the Stephenson Cancer Center’s inaugural CURE Jr. Program on Aug. 9. This one-day program provided an opportunity for rising Oklahoma high school juniors and seniors to discover more about careers in cancer research and medicine.
