Students Selected for 2018 Summer Scholars Program at the Oklahoma Tobacco Research Center

Two graduate students and two undergraduate students have been selected to participate in the 2018 Summer Scholars Program at the Oklahoma Tobacco Research Center (OTRC). The mission of the OTRC, which is part of the Stephenson Cancer Center, is to reduce, and ultimately eliminate, tobacco-related morbidity and mortality in Oklahoma through research that informs interventions and health policy.

New research, led by Stephenson Cancer Center physician-scientist Jennifer Holter-Chakrabarty, MD, points to a potentially more effective diagnostic test for marrow recovery in patients leukemia undergoing bone marrow and stem cell transplants. This research was recently published in the journal, Lancet Haematology.

This week Stephenson Cancer Center investigators made 24 presentations focused on cutting-edge cancer research at the 2018 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) annual meeting in Chicago. These presentations focused on the results of clinical trials and research studies for new cancer therapies being developed and evaluated at the Stephenson Cancer Center. The ASCO annual meeting is the nation’s most anticipated and prestigious gathering for cancer physicians and scientists, attracting more than 32,000 oncology professionals from around the world.
