Clinical trials provide patients with opportunities to access promising new cancer therapies. The Stephenson Cancer Center is a top two cancer center nationally for the number of patients participating in clinical trials sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the nation’s largest supporter of cancer research. Our Early-Phase Clinical Research Program provides patients with first access to the newest targeted-therapy and precision medicine-based treatments.
One in four patients at the Stephenson participates in a clinical trial to access cutting-edge treatments and the highest standard of patient care. Through their participation, these heroes of hope help advance cancer medicine and raise the standard of care for patients everywhere.
One in two men and one in three women in Oklahoma will be diagnosed with cancer during their lives. This year, over 19,000 Oklahoma residents will be diagnosed with cancer. Currently, over 200,000 cancer survivors in Oklahoma who live with the long-term effects of their disease. Nationally, we have the 7th highest cancer mortality rate among all states. Unfortunately, our large rural and American Indian populations suffer from some of the highest cancer incidence and mortality rates in the US.
Investigators at the Stephenson Cancer Center conduct a wide range of research in the basic, clinical, behavioral and population sciences to improve patient outcomes and decrease the burden of cancer in the state and the nation:
The Stephenson Cancer Center provides patients with the highest standard of research-driven and patient-centered care available in the state and region. Cancer care at the Stephenson is delivered by a multidisciplinary team of oncology physicians who specialize in specific types of cancer. Patients are helped at every step of their journey by a team of supportive care specialists who assist with the emotional, physical and financial hardships of cancer.
