Gretchen Wienecke, MD is an associate professor of anesthesiology specializing in pain medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and has been a faculty member since 2001. She is the medical director of the OU Physicians Pain Medicine clinic and also program director of the pain medicine fellowship.
After her residency, she worked as a private practice anesthesiologist in South Dakota. In 1997 she came to Oklahoma to pursue a pain medicine fellowship at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
Dr. Wienecke currently serves on the American Academy of Pain Medicine’s Opioid Advisory Committee. She is a member of American Society of Anesthesiologists, Society for Education in Anesthesia, and Association of Pain Program Directors among others. She also serves as a mentor for the American Medical Women’s Association, helping guide women through their education and career choices.
She has served as a member of the Oklahoma State Senate Advisory Committee on Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment 2012-2014, and as member of the Oklahoma Medical Board Multidisciplinary Task Force Committee on Pain Management since 2011.
Dr. Wienecke received her undergraduate degree in Anthropology at Montana State University and her medical degree at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Her internal medicine internship was completed at St. Mary’s Hospital in San Francisco, followed by anesthesiology residency at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. She completed her fellowship in pain management at the OU Health Sciences Center. She is board certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine.
