Gynecologic Oncology Specialist Joins the Stephenson Cancer Center

 Debra L. Richardson, MD, a gynecologic oncologist, has established her medical practice with the Stephenson Cancer Center. She has also been named an associate professor with the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine.

Gynecologic oncologists specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of cancers of the female reproductive tract, including the cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes, vagina, ovaries and peritoneum. Richardson is board certified in gynecologic oncology. She often utilizes robotic surgery when treating patients and has a special interest in fertility sparing management of patients with gynecologic cancers.

She will spend half of her practice participating in phase I clinical trials for gynecologic cancer patients. Richardson comes to Stephenson Cancer Center from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, where she was an assistant professor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

She completed a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, Columbus, and participated in a fellowship in women’s health at Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education, Rochester, Minnesota. She completed the Galloway Fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York City. Richardson completed her residency and internship in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Farmington.

She earned a certificate in clinical and translational science from Mayo Graduate School and earned her medical degree from New York Medical College, Valhalla. Richardson is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Surgeons. She is a member of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, American Society of Clinical Oncology and Society of Gynecologic Oncology.
